Noah Campbell - School Leader
Mr. Campbell has been an educator for almost 15 years since graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2002 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Having spent over half his life living in the Northwest Ohio area, he sees untapped potential in the students of Toledo. After being offered his "dream job" with Discovery Academy, he is determined to help those students realize their own vision of success. "It is my sincere intention to offer each student that attends Discovery Academy every possible resource to be successful in today’s highly competitive world," says Mr. Campbell. Currently, Noah resides right across the border in Luna Pier, Michigan, with his wife Courtney, their beautiful daughter, Sophia, and their chocolate lab, Wheatley. His motto is a derivative of a John C. Maxwell quote.

Instructional Coach/Assistant Principal
Mrs. Kosch graduated from the University of Toledo with Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She joined Discovery as the Instructional Coach after spending 7 years as a 3rd grade teacher at Bennett Venture Academy in Toledo, Ohio. There, she also served as a Teacher Mentor (Resident Educator) as well as the middle school volleyball and basketball coach. She lives in Temperance, Michigan with her husband, Barry, her two children, Tyler and Isabella and her dog, Gus. She enjoys playing sports, swimming, and the great outdoors. Barb is excited to continue her journey as a part of Discovery Academy and undertake this amazing opportunity in her life.
Theresa Bourgeois - Dean of Academics (K-2)
Mrs. Bourgeois graduated from Adrian College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Language Arts with her Elementary Teaching certificate. She graduated with high honors while being active in many different organizations on campus. Her and her husband recently became parents of a beautiful baby girl, Hazel. When she isn't playing with her amazing daughter, Mrs Bourgeois loves to scrapbook, read, and shop! Mrs. Bourgeois loves all the children at Discovery and enjoys watching them learn and grow each and every year!
Angela Zagar - Dean of Academics (3-6)
Mrs. Zagar is a graduate of The University of Toledo. Mrs. Zagar has a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, which she obtained with honorary distinction and plans to continue advancing her education by pursuing a Masters degree. She has a passion for teaching, and is excited to make a difference in her students' lives. Mrs. Zagar comes from a large family and is the eldest of 7 children! She has tutored many students, including her siblings, throughout her college career, ultimately helping each one achieve their goals. She believes that each student can be pushed and encouraged to meet their goals and loves to see their enthusiasm when they do! She currently lives in Taylor, MI with her husband, Brendan, son, Miles and dog, Frey. She is ready to bring her enthusiasm and love of teaching to Discovery Academy for another year.
Emily Mann - Special Education Supervisor & Community Connections Coordinator
Mrs. Mann grew up near a very small town called Findlay, Ohio. She came to Bowling Green State University to pursue a career in education. She started as an Early Childhood Education Major and switched to Intervention Specialist during her sophomore year. She worked for the Office of the Dean of Students and was a member and board member of Educators in Context and Community (ECCO). These organizations taught her a lot about herself, and helped her grow into the person she is today, learning leadership skills, communication skills, cooperation skills, and team work skills. Coming to Bowling Green, she felt more exposed to a diverse group of people and took full advantage of every opportunity to learn about different cultures and backgrounds. She was able to have the opportunity to travel to Italy, and teach in 3 different schools, go to New York City to tour and work in different schools and after school programs, and work at a camp with students from New York City. Challenges are something she embraces, and she feels when she's out of her comfort zone is when she learns the most. She has seen students with special needs be put on the back burner in the classroom, and she wants to be able to help change that and educate others on how to work with all students. This would allow all students to have equal opportunities in the classroom.
Tammy Knighten - Dean of Students
Mrs. Tammy Knighten is excited about joining the Discovery Academy family. Tammy graduated from Spring Arbor University with a BA In Family Life Education. Tammy has spent most of her career in various positions of child advocacy. Tammy is a Certified Teaching Parent, Foster Parent Trainer, and ACT Parenting Class Facilitator. Tammy is married to Andre and has one daughter Gabrielle, and a puppy named Mr. Chocolate.
Kristin Boss - Office Manager
Ms. Boss is thrilled to be a part of Discovery Academy family! She has always had a passion for education, and at one time aspired to be a teacher. However, she happily settled into raising a family. Ms. Boss is the mother of 7 biological children and 2 step children. She was a stay at home mom for many years. Since then, she has enjoyed owning her own store, being a flight attendant and even running a farm in Arizona! Ms. Boss loves reading, sewing and knitting (rumor has it that she has more yarn than anyone could ever knit in a lifetime!) Kristin has recently settled in Curtice, OH with children, two dogs (a St. Bernard and a Boxer), a new flock of chickens and her beloved cockatoo parrot. Word in the neighborhood is that she plans to add ducks and goats to their family soon!
Sherri Grup - Kindergarten A
Miss Grup is a life-long resident of Northwest Ohio and graduated from the University of Toledo with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. For 7 years, Sherri taught preschool and toddler children at Apple Tree Nursery School on the campus of UT and is currently in her fifth year educating Discovery's Kinders, and LOVING it! Sherri lives in Rossford, Ohio with her boyfriend, Eric, his daughter, Starra, and two dogs, a Yorkshire terrier named Oliver and a Chihuahua named Finnigan. She enjoys reading, watching Ohio State and Toledo Rocket football, playing with her pups, movies and hanging out with her family and friends.
Christlin Cline - Kindergarten B
Miss Cline was born and raised in Barberton, Ohio. After high school she was interested in continuing her education at a small private school. That is where she earned her BA in Early Childhood Education at Lourdes University in 2017. She completed her student teaching with Toledo Public Schools in a kindergarten classroom and loved it! Miss Cline is excited to make the move to the Toledo area and begin teaching at Discovery Academy. In the summers, Miss Cline spends her days outdoors at summer camps with kids of all ages. She enjoys spending her extra time with her family and friends. Miss Cline is also a Cleveland Sports fan.
Alexandria Curtis - 1st Grade A
Miss Curtis is thrilled to be teaching 1st grade for Discovery Academy this upcoming fall. She just graduated from Lourdes University with Cum Laude honors with a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. She also played college volleyball for the four years she was there. She has gained experience not only in athletics but with academics in grades K-3. She has lived in Ohio/Michigan majority of her life. In her free time she plays sand volleyball, draws famous people, does arts and crafts, and watches movies.She is looking forward to having a successful year with the students here at Discovery Academy!
Allison Heenan - 1st Grade B
Mrs. Heenan attended The University of Toledo for 5 years and received her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, Allison took a job in her hometown of Twinsburg, Ohio teaching Preschool for 1 year. When her husband proposed in the summer of 2014, they decided to move back to Toledo. In her free time Allison likes to spend time with her family in Cleveland. She looks forward to another year at Discovery Academy guiding her students to fun and success!
Hannah Wilt - 2nd Grade A
Ms. Wilt is so excited to be a part of the Discovery Academy teaching staff. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. This is her first year teaching, and she hopes that her students' develop a love for learning and create many happy 2nd grade memories. She knew she wanted to be a teacher from a young age, and was inspired by the many teachers that influenced her life. In her free time, Ms. Wilt enjoys cooking, baking, watching movies, and spending time with her family. She loves animals and has two dogs, two rabbits, a cat and an awesome betta fish.
Abby Laubacher - 2nd Grade B
Miss Laubacher was born and raised in Canton, Ohio and has recently relocated to the Toledo area. After graduating from Kent State University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and acquiring her K-12 Reading Endorsement, she gained experience teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at a small inner city school in Canton. In her free time, she loves to read in the sun, visit local parks, spend time with her family, and peruse flea markets. As she enters her 5th year teaching, Miss Laubacher is beyond excited to join the Discovery Academy family and is looking forward to learning and growing with her students!
Megan Hinojosa - 3rd Grade A
Mrs. Hinojosa is thrilled to begin her third year teaching 3rd grade at Discovery Academy. She is a lifelong resident of Point Place in Toledo and graduated, with honors, from The University of Toledo in 2013 with her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Hinojosa plans on pursuing her Masters Degree in Education in the near future. She and her husband, Stephen, have a son, Avery, a daughter, Amelia, and two precious cats, Casper and (one-eyed) Winkie. In her spare time, Megan enjoys exploring all that Toledo has to offer with her family, watching Notre Dame football and Tigers baseball with her husband, crafting, and having the occasional girls' night out with her mom and two sisters. Megan is looking forward to connecting with each and every one of her students and using everything she learned in her first year of teaching to help her students grow to reach all of their amazing potential.
Ariel Word - 3rd Grade B
Miss Word is beyond excited to join the Discovery Academy family as a 3rd grade teacher! She was raised in Avon Lake, Ohio (near Cleveland; Go Cavs!) and completed her undergraduate career in Early Childhood Education at The Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!). In 2014, she moved to Perrysburg, Ohio and taught preschool in BG for over a year but decided to pursue her Masters in Education at University of Toledo. During her time at UT, she worked with all grade levels but fell in love with 3rd grade during her time as a student teacher at an urban charter school. Miss Word graduated with her M.Ed. in 2017. She and her boyfriend, Zachary, have a dog named Bear who keeps them very busy. In her spare time, Miss Word enjoys spending time outside, doing yoga, and catching up on her never-ending reading list. She looks forward beginning her teaching career at Discovery Academy!
Laura Parilla - 4th Grade A
Laura is new to the Toledo area and is excited for her first year teaching at Discovery Academy. A recent summa cum laude graduate of Cleveland State University, Laura is prepared to begin her adventure as a teacher. She completed her student teaching experiences in Cleveland Metropolitan School District as a member of the Cleveland Foundation Fellows program, giving her an edge in urban education. Speaking of adventures, in her free time Laura enjoys being active with frequent trips to Disney World and baseball games, as well as exploring state and national parks.
Taylor Duvall - 4th Grade B
Ms. Duvall graduated from Lourdes University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She graduated with honors and played on the softball team. She plans to continue her education with endorsements and a Master’s Degree. She is very passionate about teaching and believes in helping each student based on their individual needs. She currently lives in Newport, MI. She has a one-year-old daughter, Eliana and a three-year-old Goldendoodle, Bella. She is excited to learn and grow with the students of Discovery Academy!
Kasey Graham - 5th Grade A (Math/Science)
Miss Graham is a graduate of Lourdes University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Middle Childhood Math and Science Education. She is very excited to begin her third year at Discovery Academy and is eager to implement new and invigorating ideas into her classroom. Ms. Graham's ultimate goal each school year is to create a safe and positive learning environment where every student can achieve their greatest potential. Some of her hobbies include traveling, reading, and kayaking.
John Hinkle - 5th Grade (ELA/Social Studies)
Mr. Hinkle earned his Bachelor's degree in Education from Bowling Green State University and his Master's degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Lourdes University. He has been teaching for 15 years, has taught grades 6-12 and worked at the college level as well. Mr. Hinkle believes in teaching to the whole child, bringing a continuing set of high expectations and academic rigor to 5th graders each day while also empowering them to create a restorative classroom. Mr. Hinkle has two children of his own. He is an avid reader, chess player, and sports fan.
Elaine Harris - 6th Grade
Mrs. Harris' is quite the "gypsy"! She has lived in ten states! She began her career as an office manager and banker. She realized her passion for teaching in her twenties and decided to go back to school and gain her certification to teach. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a Masters degree in leadership and administration from Louisiana State University and is a die-hard LSU fan, especially football and baseball! Geaux Tigers! Although basketball is not her favorite sport, she attended many games during her time on LSU's campus in order to see Shaquille O'Neal own the court at the Pete Maverich Center. She has 20+ years experience in the classroom teaching grades Pre-K - 6th grades. Mrs. Harris has taught in Louisiana, Indiana, and is excited to join the Discovery Academy family here in our great state of Ohio. She and her husband have 5 children, 4 grandchildren, and one on the way. Mrs. Harris enjoys watching and attending college football games and has set a goal to attend every college stadium in the SEC. She also enjoys crafts, sewing, reading, running, traveling with her husband and spending time with both family and friends.
Katie Heginbotham - Intervention Specialist
Miss Heginbotham is a 2015 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, earning dual Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Elementary Education and Exceptional Needs Education. She is thrilled to spend another year with the dedicated teaching team at Discovery Academy! She is passionate about making learning exciting and fun for each one of her students. Believing that every student deserves every opportunity to succeed in the classroom, she is dedicated to embracing challenges and problem solving to create the best possible learning environment for every one of her students. In her free time, Miss H enjoys crafting, reading, practicing her ukulele, and cheering on Cleveland sports teams.
Brooke Sterling - Intervention Specialist
Ms. Sterling grew up in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Springfield High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree as a Mild to Moderate Intervention Specialist from Bowling Green State University in May of 2007. Her first four and half years of teaching were spent at Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado. While in Colorado, she began working on her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology. Ms. Sterling moved back to Toledo in January of 2011 to work primarily on her Master’s degree. She took a job as the 6th grade teacher at Rosary Cathedral School in August of 2011. She spent one year with Rosary, and finished up her Master’s degree. She hopes someday to receive a PhD in Educational Reform. Ms. Sterling loved teaching in Colorado. She felt it was a great teaching experience, but she is really looking forward to working with the younger kids, here at Discovery Academy. She looks forward to the new challenges and learning curves that will come with working with the K-3 students.
Heather Dassouki - Fine Arts
Ms. Dassouki is very excited to start her second year with Discovery Academy. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre from the University of Toledo in 2007 and her Master’s degree in Education and Training from the University of Phoenix in 2011. She has worked with children of all ages, at various schools since 2006, but spent most of her time in an early childhood education setting. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family and friends,amazing coworkers and her six year old son Michael. She also is an active community theatre member, is a board member of a new production company called Stone Productions, and enjoys being onstage! Occasionally, she also enjoys playing in CCHS Marching Irish and UT Rocket Marching Band alumni events.
Anthony Pettaway - Physical Education
Mr. Pettaway attended Defiance College with a B.A. in Business Administration. While there, he also played basketball which led into a semi-pro basketball stint where for five years playing the sport in Germany, Mexico, Canada, and tours around the world. Mr. Pettaway has a passion for basketball, fitness, and working with young people. He is also currently a employee at the YMCA as part of their youth sports staff. His goal is to help the youth of Toledo, and make a positive impact on the world by doing his part of service.
Anjelica Smith - Office Assistant
Mrs. Smith is excited for another year at Discovery Academy! In 2009 she attended school at Ross Medical Center where she studied Medical Billing and Coding. Anjelica has worked in various daycare centers and has always had a passion for working with young children. She is a very family oriented person and loves spending time with her husband Clifton and three children; Jeremiah, Kyla and Clifton Jr. In her free time Anjelica enjoys crafting, shopping, and watching football. This year she hopes to instill a positive influence and to build a close bond with the students at Discovery.
Kelley Brown - RTI Aide
Miss Brown is thrilled for another year with Discovery Academy staff this year. She attended Owens Community College where she plans on obtaining her Early Childhood Education degree. She has always loved working with young people; has been a tutor and volunteer through her church and many other educational organizations in the past and is happy to return to the education field. She enjoys spending time with family (including her godson), outdoor activities, animals, and is a sports enthusiast!
Tiffany Tower - Kindergarten Aide
Mrs. Tower is excited to continue her journey with Discovery Academy! She grew up in Bedford with her mom running a home daycare and has 4 years experience in a 5-star preschool center. She lives in Erie, Mi with her husband Tyler and their three children, Tanner, Trevor, Teagan, and golden retriever, Tootie. In her spare time she loves to go camping, play games, crafts, and spend time with family.
Paige Gipson - Kindergarten Aide
Miss Gipson grew up in Lambertville Michigan, graduating Bedford High School in June of 2017. She has had the heart for teaching kids ever since she was little. She is very excited to be working at Discovery Academy and furthering her education career at Monroe Community College in the winter for Early Childhood Education. Miss Gipson spends her spare time with her friends and family.
Gloria Menduni - Kindergarten Special Education Aide
Gloria was born and raised in Imola, Italy, and has just moved with her husband to Toledo, Ohio. She taught English as a second language to kids and adults while attending the University of Bologna- the oldest University in the Western world! In 2016 she received her DITALS certificate for teaching Italian to foreigners and started teaching non-native speakers of all nationalities and ages. In 2017, Gloria graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in Liberal Arts and a specialisation in Linguistics. She has a passion for languages, education, acting and theatre and has performed in many shows. She also loves to discover and experience other cultures and has travelled across Europe and almost all of the U.S. states on the East Coast. She is extremely excited to be part of the Discovery Academy team and to be able to have such an enriching experience!

Jeanne Erickson - 1st Grade Aide
Mrs. Jeanne Erickson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication from The University of Toledo. Positions held over the course of her career have included: Therapeutic Recreation Assistant (specializing in creating and facilitating art projects for children and adults with disabilities), Graphic Designer, Animator, Illustrator, Gymnastics Instructor and Art Teacher. Mrs. Erickson was born and raised in Toledo, and loves all of the art & culture this wonderful city has to offer! She and her husband (Jeff) have three daughters (Gretchen, Kendall & Annaliese) and a furry son (their cockapoo, Charlie). In Mrs. Erickson's free time, she enjoys being with her family, antiquing, cooking, drawing and a number of outdoor sports and activities. Mrs. Erickson feels fortunate to be a part of the Discovery Academy team, and loves assisting students as they discover the wonder and excitement of learning.

Sarah LaVoy - 2nd Grade Special Education Aide
Sarah LaVoy graduated from Davis College in 2009 with an associates degree in early childhood education. She has worked in many preschools in the Toledo area. This is her first year at Discovery Academy and she is very excited to make a difference here. She has 2 boys Matthew and Andrew. Both boys and their dad reside with her is West Toledo. In her free time she enjoys reading, spending time with family, sports, and shopping.
Jeremy Mann - 3rd Grade Aide
Mr. Mann graduated from Waite High School in 2011. After graduation, he started his schooling for Physical Therapy Assistant. During his time pursuing a higher education, Mr. Mann started leading the Teen Ministry in his church and he found his new passion for working with and mentoring youth. His goal is to have a positive impact on the youth in his community. Mr. Mann is excited to make a impact on the students at Discovery and to be a part of the Discovery family.

Julie Andrews - 5th Grade Aide
Mrs. Julie Andrews is excited to be a part of the Discovery Academy family. She has had several years of experience in child care and in the school setting. She lives in Blissfield, Michigan but is originally from Monroe, Michigan. She got married this summer to her husband Jeremy, where she inherited to bonus kids. Her and her family are heavily involved with 4H and enjoy raising animals for the local county fair's. They also have 3 pet dogs, 1 cat, 1 turtle and 3 fish tanks. Mrs. Andrews is looking forward to an awesome year in the 5th grade at Discovery Academy!
Nick Hayes - 5th Grade Aide Special Education Aide
Mr. Hayes graduated from Sinclair Community College in May of 2015 with an Associates of Applied Science. Prior to getting his associates degree he spent his summers as a volunteer camp counselor. The camps were put together by youth ministry leaders apart of his church. Mr. Hayes worked with 6th grade to seniors in Highschool and saw the need for positive mentorship and guidance for the next generation. He is grateful for the opportunity to do so at Discovery Academy.
Stacie Jones - 6th Grade Aide
Miss Jones joins the Discovery team after almost a decade of serving as a team leader for the Kids Unlimited after-school program. She loves working with students, and it excited to be a part of the Discovery team!
Kylie Carter - School Therapist
Miss. Kylie graduated from University of Toledo with her Bachelors degree in Social Work and after a few years of working as a Domestic Violence Court Advocate she went back to school at Eastern Michigan University, graduating with her Masters in Social Work. Miss. Kylie has been working within Discovery Academy since the Fall of 2013 and loves the family that Discovery has built and the involvement that the Discovery staff takes in each students life. Murell Gregory - Custodian / Cafeteria
Mr. Gregory is a recent graduate of Herzing University where he earned an Associate's degree in Medical Billing and Insurance Coding. Being a husband and a father is very important to him, and he is very serious when it comes to hard work and respect. In this regard, he hopes his morals and values rub off on the students at Discovery Academy. In his spare time, he enjoys attending church, fishing, going to the library, parks, and just about any other other outdoor recreational activity. One of the most important things he was told was that a person should never stop learning, so I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Clifton Smith - Custodian / Cafeteria
Mr. Clif is a former Bowsher Rebel who is attending Owens Community College to earn a degree in Business Management. He was married to his wife of five years in May of 2010. Together they have three children; Jeremiah, Kyla, and Clifton Jr. Clifton's passion for family and his faith in God are two of the most important things to him. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, playing basketball, and going to church. Being new to Discovery Academy he hopes to instill integrity, hard work, and perseverance to make for a successful school year.

Jennifer Loeffler - Speech Therapist
Mrs. Loeffler has been a Speech Language Pathologist for over 25 years, and has been with the Leona Group since 2014. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She has worked with students of all ages, from preschool to those transitioning from high school, helping students with a variety of communication needs. She lives in Bowling Green, Ohio with her husband Tim, son Logan and dogs Cooper and Maddie. When she's not watching her son play baseball, she can be found trying to improve her very poor photography skills, doing any DIY home improvement project from painting to tile work or dreaming of a trip to Disney World!
Lisa Stormer - Occupational Therapist
This is Lisa Stormer's third year with Leona schools as well as her third year with Discovery. She has an associates degree in applied science and is a licensed and certified occupational therapy assistant. She has previously worked with the special-needs population at Woodlane in Bowling Green, Ohio. She currently lives in Perrysburg with her husband and her youngest child Adam; who will be graduating from PHS this school year.
Chinnon Jaquay - School Psychologist
Miss Chinnon services students and families in grades kindergarten through third. Going into her 14th year as a school psychologist, she has been with The Leona Group for six years. Chinnon graduated from The University of Toledo in 2003 with her Education Specialist degree in School Psychology. Trained in assessment, consultation and counseling, she looks forward to bringing these skills to the students, staff and families at Discovery Academy. Chinnon lives her life by the motto "Obstacles are the frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal." She lives in Toledo with her daughter.
Venessa Moya - School Psychologist
Miss Venessa has worked as a School Psychologist for the past 5 years. She graduated from the University of Toledo in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology then again in 2010 with an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology. She previously worked for the Leona Group for 2 years and is very excited to be back as part of the Discovery Academy team. Training at the University of Toledo focused on Consultation, Assessment and Response to Intervention (RTI). Over the past 5 years, she has strengthened her skills in RTI by facilitating its development at Tiers 1, 2, and 3 at both the building and district level. She looks forward to bringing these skills to the Discovery Academy staff, and students. Miss Venessa lives in Toledo with her son. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, being active and traveling.
