Check out Mr. Campbell's Ice Bucket Challenge!
Discovery Academy, located in Toledo, Ohio, is a tuition-free community school serving grades K-6 and focusing on 21st century skills and project-based learning.
Discovery Academy strives to empower our students with tools that they may not otherwise have access to due to economic constraints. There is a need to enable them to envision the world beyond their own neighborhood. It is our desire to expose them to people and places they never would have had an opportunity to meet or see. They will be empowered to see the difference they can make in their own community as they engage in project-based learning.
Understanding and using technology will be an integral part of virtually every aspect of daily life for our students. It is our mission to transform the learning process with technology-infused projects beneficial to the community, while promoting collaboration, global awareness, and high student achievement.
Located on the beautiful campus of the Sisters of Notre Dame near the corner of Secor Rd. and Monroe St., this family-friendly community school is now scheduling tours and enrolling students for the 2014-2015 school year. Call today, reserve your spot, and discover the difference.
A message from Mr. Noah Campbell, School Leader
As Discovery Academy prepares for it's second year, we must first reflect on year one and the goals we set out for the school and for ourselves. First and foremost, we made it our number one priority to put on a top-notch educational program for our students and families. 100% of our staff was highly-qualified throughout the entire year and our teachers and students exceeded expectations by posting an incredible school-wide average of 153% growth on their NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests for math and reading. What that means is that our students collectively exceeded their expected yearly growth by 53%. In addition, 96% of our 3rd graders met the requirements for promotion under the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Another area we targeted for growth was the number of total students we served in the building. After having just 30 students enrolled on August 1st of 2013, we opened the first day of school with an amazing 93 students, and we finished the year with 129, a 39% enrollment growth over the course of the year. In our world, the best form of advertising is word-of-mouth, and we cannot thank you enough for sharing us with your friends and family, a trend, which I hope continues as we strive for our enrollment goal of 200 students for the 14-15 school year.
Last, but certainly not least, we wanted to create a family-friendly school that was an extension of home; a place parents could feel comfortable sending their children each and every day. This goal is harder to measure, but after reading parent surveys, Facebook reviews, and talking with parents on a daily basis, I'd like to think this is another area in which we were able to exceed expectations. That said, now is not the time to rest on our laurels. If we truly want to be one of the elite elementary schools in the city of Toledo and in the state of Ohio, we must raise the bar we have set for ourselves and do it all over again year after year, and I hope you all will come on board for that journey with us. Thank you for a wonderful first year, and here's to many more to come in the future.
